Hey guys,
Here is a small project that I have recently undertaken: modifying the steering wheel from a Honda Civic X to function with a PC and Asetek QR.
Initially, I disassembled it to modify the buttons. However, upon disassembly, I realized that reworking the PCB controlling the buttons wouldn't be feasible.
Thus, I opted to create a new one, intending to control the wheel via an Arduino board. After crafting the new board and integrating new buttons, I found myself confronted with a multitude of wires from each side, each button requiring two wires.
With the wiring sorted, I proceeded to 3D scan the wheel to seamlessly integrate paddle shifters into the back.
Following this, I contemplated various methods to incorporate the Asetek QR. Ultimately, I decided to cut off the back end, drill a few holes, and affix the Asetek adapter into the wheel.
The subsequent steps involved the Arduino setup and finalizing the wiring, bringing me to a functional wheel albeit with a somewhat messy appearance.
The project, while functional, left the wheel with an aesthetically untidy appearance. To address this, I once again 3D scanned it, designed a cover, and enveloped it with foam before wrapping it in Alcantara for a polished finish.
