Hi
I'm making a custom board to fit inside a dashboard wit an atmega328p-AU. I'm using the ch340g chip as a usb to ttl, but I get the Fake Chip message in sim hub. The chi I am using is a genuine ch340g chip, so why am I getting this message. It's not the message that appears in red but the one that is listed in arduino scan settings where you select the ports.
The board connects fine, but I just get this annoying message - makes it look like there is something wrong.
There are videos on you tube that show you how to install a new driver, but that just creates the red error messages and that makes the board unrecognisable.
For genuine chips, this message shouldn't appear surely?
Hi ! It's almost impossible to know if the chip is fake or not (i'm not the manufacturer) so this message is warning you about the potential issues of such chips as shown in the linked documentation :
https://github.com/SHWotever/SimHub/wiki/Arduino---Counterfeit-Fake-CH340G-chips-driver-issues
But the detection is already reduced to a subset of chips based on a "suspicious" USB descriptor name.
Unfortunately the detection is approximate, but victims of fake chips are numerous, I have to keep this message. To be honest, I would like to get rid of it .. I hate such invasive messages, but it helped many users already.
Hi and thanks for the speedy reply.
I totally understand that you cannot identify all chips, but the message is pretty brutal. The board works fine with this chip as it is so it's not a problem for me.
Thanks
Rob
