Hello,
i know, this type of led is not listed in simhub. But is it possible to control APA102 Leds? They have an integrated control chip too.
Thanks you.
I am asking because i'd like to build a pcb with this kind of leds. After i solved my problems with false flickering leds when abs- or tc-active value came on, i saw a new "problem". For example you have yellow-colored shiftlights and when you reach redline all leds go blue and then you brake and downshift quick and the revs go up in the redline-range the yellow-lights go white for a really short period of time but it is noticeable (same happens, when blue abs-lights flicker where originally yellow shiftlights are). I thought maybe the WS2812B itself isn't fast enough for changing light-states. I know, it is "moaning" on a very high level, but real racecar-dashboards doesn't show such things. Yeah i know, i tend to be a perfectionist and maybe i am too critical on this. But i started reading about other types of rgb-leds and i came across the APA102. The APA is faster and has a higher PWM-frequency and data rate compared to WS2812B. And i think some other simracing-gear-manufacturers for example SymProjects and their device "Pro-Race Micro" uses different kind of leds. I think maybe they use APA102, at least they look like APA. Or maybe they use WS2822(?!)
They very nice thing about SimHub is, that you can build and design your own gear, so it would be nice SimHub could handle the APAs using SPI.
Cheers,
Sigma7
Hello ! For now they are not supported, I try to focus on the most widespread hardware as I'm now really tight in the sketch size, and APA are not really the common yet 😉 It's possible to modify the sketch to replace ws2812b with APA (see C:\Program Files (x86)\SimHub\_Addons\Arduino\DisplayClientV2\SHRGBLedsNeoPixelFastLed.h) , but you will be going on an unsupported road 😉
Hey,
thank you very much for your answer. I think i will try this, thanks 😉
