Input stutter with Fanatec DD1 only when Simhub running

I recently installed licensed Simhub and began using it with iracing to set up a single ShakeIt motor for ABS and wheel lock feedback. However, I started noticing randomly-occurring stutters in the steering wheel input, where the on-screen wheel stops tracking the actual wheel for a fraction of a second, and the FFB then reacts with sudden and violent force. It often occurs as a series of these stutters. So back in the pit, I just started moving the wheel back and forth and realized that this is happening consistently, not just in certain situations on track. Knowing that Simhub was the last change made to the system, I exited Simhub and everything went back to normal immediately.

FYI I have not used Simhub with any other sims so I can't say whether it is iracing-specific.

I want to use Simhub to drive my new feedback hardware, and I paid the license fee for it, but this setup is unusable in this state. I had hoped that, with so many Fanatec wheel owners out there running iracing, some of them would also use Simhub and would have encountered this issue, but searching has turned up nothing specific.

My system is an i9-9900k with 16GB and 3080ti. I drive in VR on an Index and have zero lag/latency/stuttering when Simhub is not running - it's worth noting that the steering stutter is not affecting graphics in any way. FWIW I also just updated the Fanatec drivers and firmware but that made no difference.

Thanks in advance for any guidance here!

Am I seriously the only one to experience this problem with Simhub? I actually paid for two $20 licenses to support the dev effort for this cool piece of software, I think a developer should be able to take a few minutes and give me some guidance. I could find nothing in the docs that is helpful for troubleshooting performance issues

Hi Simple,

Not sure if this is going to help or not. Probably not, but, it might add some weight to your issue. I think I have a similar (albeit very strange ) issue. I have not noticed any stutter on my CSL DD, but, I do have an issue where in iRacing, I lose my gears and sometimes FFB and sometimes steering when I am in or just passing the pits. If I can manage to coast down the straight, as soon as I am no longer adjacent to the pits everything returns to normal. It then stays like that for the rest of the lap until i get onto pit straight again. It's happened on more than one track. It's intermittent and probably only happens maybe 10% of the time. But, its very annoying when you grid up and suddenly realise you're stuck in neutral. Like you, I have just licenced simhub yesterday and its the last thing I have done. Before that iRacing was working without issues. The other thing of note is that I have installed Rob Romains RSC dashboard pack. I have not tried to stop Simhub from running, so your a little ahead of me. That's my next step. Then the next step will be to remove Rob's pack.

I'll keep my eye out for the stutter issue. I'll post again here if I can further isolate the issues to SimHub.

Hey I actually forgot about this thread when the developer couldn't be bothered to help. The notification email is the only reason I noticed a reply all this time later!

I never completed my troubleshooting on this issue, beyond confirming that it was in fact Simhub causing the input latency - the fact that the FFB "stutter" goes away when the Simhub process is terminated proves this, even if it is caused by some other interaction on the system. FWIW in response to the previous reply regarding pit lane proximity, I did observe this happening well away from the pit lane on track.

I simply stopped using the pedal feedback motor because of this problem, and I know it sounds weird, but I actually found the vibration generated by the wheel to transmit well enough through the frame of my rig that I could feel brake feedback through my Sprint pedal (I wear socks, might not work with shoes). This is all about approximation anyway because we obviously can't replicate all the forces and feedback of actual driving, but I guess I have trained myself to transfer the sensation from the real-life racecar to this sim.

One thing I did not call out in the initial post is that I am running Norton antivirus, and I know it can interfere with latency-sensitive applications. I had written a list of things to try to eliminate possible causes but I never followed through! Next time I do an iracing session, I will work through that list and post my results here.

Hi,

Happens to me too

This is precisely my experience since upgrading from an old belt wheel to a direct drive (in my case T500RS to T818).

Only not using sim hub stops the intermittent input drops. The FFB is updated as normal while the input is ignored. The violent force is the wheel trying to self align once usual operation is resumed.

Things I've tried in combination:

  • Different sims (AMS2 and AC - identical behaviour)
  • Lowering and Raising simhub priority
  • Not running Simhub as admin
  • Disabling all unused plugins
  • Removing Rob Romain pack
  • Swapping USB ports / controllers in a multitude of configurations.
  • Killing / pausing background processes
  • Cleanup of windows processes / services / startup apps
  • Reinstalling Thrustmaster drivers

I am not running any 3rd party AntiVirus software.

At a bit of a loss as to what to try. I have a couple of transducers, a HF8 and a wind kit all sitting there basically unusable. Anyone have any ideas as to what else I can do?

I tried to find an option in SimHub to change the refresh rate from 60hz to something lower but I can't find one.

So for anyone searching this problem, I fixed the issue with the nuclear option. I reinstalled windows, downgrading from 11 to 10. Not sure if I needed to downgrade but it was convenient to do so.

Before doing that I tried buying an external sound card to drive the buttkickers (rather than the onboard sound) and that didn't work.

If anyone has the issue and finds a more specific solution please post it.

@tabs

Hi I am bumping this thread because I had similar issues

Hardware setup is as followed

DD1

OBP pedals

Qubic System 3dof

GSI wheel

Plus loads of voocore screens

Win11

I experience spikes on the pedal input sometimes and I tried a long time to fix it, basically tried everything untill I found this.

The GSI wheel has a screen and led that's running off simhub, and when I switched the wheel, simhub no longer see them and is constantly trying to scan all USB ports. Changing the scan to specific ports only fixed my stutter.

That works on the led side, but I don't see the option on the screen side, so I have to manually disable it whenever I switch to a different rim

Don't know how useful is this info, but trust me that caused me headache for months
