So I am using a 12mm steel momentary button that has an LED ring around the button - just the normal LED button. I'm having no trouble triggering things like DRS on my individual neo pixels but they also are bolted to their own little pcb so simhub plays nice with it. I'm wondering if it's at all possible to tap into the 12mm buttons to manipulate the LED ring around the button. having that flash for the DRS available would be ideal but barring it be put on a another board for timing, I don't see how it's possible. thoughts?

In case anyone else is wondering, this is very possible as in the interim of asking this, I found a solution. The wiring gets quite complex but using individual breadboard friendly neopixels, I've 3d printed a housing and proto board to fit inside a 19mm button on each side.
OR if you don't want to do that work, adafruit makes this exact thing I learned too. it isn't cheap but depending on your wheel, it's worth it. Here is the link to their rendition with the neopixel built into the button as well as the full wiring harness atttached:
